How to play Beer Pong

Overview:

Beer Die is a drinking game that involves two teams consisting of two players on each team. The game involves taking turns throwing ping pong balls across the table with the objective to land your ball in the cup of the other team. In order to win the game, one team must successfully shoot a ping pong ball into each of the ten cups. Once a shot has been made into a cup, that cup is then cleared from the board and is no longer in play. The specific rules of beer pong can vary depending on local rules, but below are the rules that Table Topperz plays by.

Equipment needed:

6’ or 8’ long table (standard regulations call for an 8’ table)

2 ping pong balls (we recommend having 4-6 on hand)

24 solo cups, (20 for the game, 4 for personal drinks)

Enough water to fill each game cup ⅓ of the way full

Drink of choice

Getting the game set up and started:

Fill 20 cups cup ⅓ of the way with water and fill the other 4 with drinks of choice. Each team needs 10 cups on their side. With the ten cups, make a pyramid formation as outlined on the Table Topperz beer pong template. To determine which team goes first, one player from each team will have one ball and look the other person in the eye. They then throw the balls at the same time while still looking at one another. If one player makes a shot and the other does not, the team that made the shot starts the game throwing. If both players make the shot or if neither makes it, then the process is repeated until only one player makes the shot. Cups made in eye-to-eye will not be removed or counted in the game.

Game Play:

1. Throwing: Starting with the team that won eye to eye, Each player throws one ball per turn, attempting to land it in the opposing team's cups.

2. Removing a cup: When the ball lands in a cup, the opposing team has to move that cup off to the side and take a drink out of their own cup. (Cups should only be moved after both players from a team have thrown).

3. Balls back: If both players make it into a cup during a turn, they get the balls back and get another turn. There is no limit on the number of balls back in a turn.

4. Re-Racking: As the cups are removed throughout the game, you can ask for 1 re-rack which allows your team to change the formation of the cups however you want. In addition to this, when there are only two cups remaining, those two cups are placed at the back of the table and placed next to each other vertically.

4. Redemption: Once a team eliminates all of the opponent's cups, the opposing team gets a chance at redemption by attempting to eliminate the remaining cups. If successful, the game goes into sudden death over time.

5. Sudden Death: each team gets one cup. The first team to make the cup wins.

Different ways to score (optional):

- Front Cup (2 cups): At the beginning of the game during each person's first turn, they can call the “front cup." If they make it into the front cup then they get 1 extra cup on top of the front cup. However, if they make their shot into another cup that shot doesn’t count and they are not awarded that cup.

- Bounce shot (2 cups): One player bounces the ball off the table into a cup. However, the opposing team can knock the ball away as soon as it hits the table.

-Island (3 cups): If one cup is alone out on an “island” then the player throwing the ball can call island before they shoot. If they make it into the cup, then they are awarded three cups.

-Electricity (# of cups hit): If a ball hits more than one cup before it falls into a cup, every cup that is hit is taken off the table.

-Same Cup (2 cups and balls back): If both players make it into the same cup and the second player throwing says “same cup” before they throw, then the throwing team is awarded 2 extra cups and balls back.

-Trick Shots (1 cup): If a player’s initial throw does not make it into a cup and the shooting team is able to recover the ball before it hits the ground, then they get that ball back. However, on their second attempt, they must perform a trick shot. Trick shots include, eyes closed, behind the back, through the legs, off a wall or ceiling, or bouncing.
